COVID RELIEF UPDATES

Wednesday, July 7th, 2021:
At our Tree of Life Children’s Village, Dr. Guffey & Warren handed out school worksheets for each child to do while schools are closed. Each week they will receive a new packet and will be checked on to see their progress and results. The
packets have been tailored to focus on subjects they need to work on like Math and English.

Thursday, July 1st, 2021:

Sibu Shawa, a nurse at our Hill Wellness Center at the Tree of Life Children’s Village, gives us an update on what’s going on in Zambia.

Monday, June 28th, 2021:
As of today, we’ve screened over 3,575 children, given out 12,000 packets of rice and over 2700 children have received their homework packets. Our team in Zambia is working tirelessly to ensure that even during this COVID-19 crisis, the children in our program are being cared for.

Friday, June 25th, 2021:
The Family Legacy team on the ground did a COVID screening and food distribution at our Legacy Academy in Kabanana yesterday. Also while the students were there, we had them grab homework that they can take home to keep up with their studies.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021:
As the third wave of COVID-19 continues to escalate in Zambia, we wanted to provide you with this update:

Our Family Legacy team will do medical screenings and deliver food at each of our Legacy Academy Schools. The children will come to the schools in shifts, wearing masks and maintaining social distance. The children that test positive will be treated and added to our caseload.

We are using all means available to keep track of the well-being of our Family Legacy children, teenagers and young adults. This is becoming more challenging with the various lock-down protocols in place nationally. In that regard, if you are a sponsor and learn that one of your sponsored students is unwell or testing positive for COVID, direct them to reach out to any Family Legacy staff in Zambia or you can contact us by sending an email to covidrelief@familylegacy.com.
Please pray for our medical, social services and discipleship teams as they provide care. They will need protection and strength in the coming days, weeks and months. Also, keep praying for Zambia, our students, their families, staff and their families.

Monday, June 21st, 2021:
The third wave of COVID-19 has hit Zambia hard. As you are aware, Family Legacy has 14,000 children in school in 23 locations in 17 compounds throughout the city of Lusaka, Zambia. The COVID-19 infection rate in the country of Zambia is high, with one in four people testing positive every day. The hospitals are overwhelmed. Hospital beds are full, intensive care beds are full, and they now have floor beds, which is what it sounds like; patients are lying on the floor.
Our President and CEO, Mario Zandstra, visited with our doctor, Dr. Brad Guffey, and as of today, we have 150 students and staff that have COVID-19, and the number of cases is increasing daily. Our hearts break for our students, our staff and their families who are currently feeling the pain and loss already caused by COVID-19.
The needs of our children, staff, and candidly, their families are going to escalate very quickly. The critical items that are needed are:
– Food
– Purchasing additional Oxygen
– Medical supplies and prescriptions
– Medical Transportation
– Hospital Costs for our students and staff that have to visit the hospital
– Temporary Medical Staff – nurses and doctors
– COVID-19 Testing kits
Tuesday, June 15th, 2021
As you may know, Zambia is in the midst of its third wave of COVID-19 and it has been reported that this wave is far stronger than the first two waves with different COVID strains appearing. The COVID-19 numbers continue to surge as the infection rate (between 15-25% for the last week) continues to climb throughout the nation of Zambia and throughout Africa.
Our staff on both sides of the ocean will be gathering for prayer tomorrow, June 16th at 8:30 am CST. Please join us by praying throughout the day with your family and friends as we ask for God’s supernatural healing to surround Zambia.
See the video from our President and CEO, Mario Zandstra as he talks about the COVID-19 crisis in Zambia, and he invites you to join us in prayer.
