If you are a returning Camp Life participant (ambassador) and/or sponsor a child that attends a Legacy Academy, then you may want to consider which weeks your sponsored child(ren) and/or the children who were in your group for Camp Life may be coming to Camp. Carefully read through the below Q&A so that you can make an informed decision when selecting your particular week of Camp Life. At Family Legacy, we strive to do our utmost to cultivate the relationship between you as the sponsor (or ambassador) and your sponsored children.
Do all sponsored children attend Camp Life during the primary 7 weeks of Camp?
No. Certain criteria is used to determine which children attend during June/July. First, only children attending one of our Legacy Academies are able to attend during the summer months. All sponsored children attending government school will be attending Camp Life during their August school break and will not be able to attend during our primary 7 weeks listed below.
Additionally, only children who have met our minimum attendance requirement of 70% are eligible to attend Camp Life . While it is difficult to turn down one of our sponsored children for Camp Life, instituting our attendance policies in the schools has been very instrumental in developing accountability, responsibility, and character in our students. Without guidelines and consequences that are enforced, our students would be lacking a key component of character development that we feel is important to their future educational, professional, and personal endeavors.
Children who live at the Tree of Life will attend their own week of Camp Life in May.
Will I only have the children I personally sponsor? Can I also have in my group children who were in my group last year but whom I do not personally sponsor?
Our first priority is to place a sponsored child with their specific sponsor. If a friend or family member is with you who personally sponsored a child you had in your group previously, we will place the child with their sponsor. However, if the specific sponsor is not there, you can have that child in your group during Camp Life this year as well (assuming the child meets the criteria listed above).
Secondly, we consider the ‘connected ambassador’, that is the Camp Life attendee who had that child in their group previously and was responsible for getting that child sponsored. If the direct sponsor of that child does not attend Camp Life, then the connected ambassador can request those children to be in their group.
In the spring prior to your attendance of Camp Life, you will complete an online preference form. As a returning Camp Life attendee/ambassador, you have the option of choosing how many sponsored vs. unsponsored children you would like to have in your Camp Life group.
Will my kids come the week I come?
Yes, as long as you select one of the same weeks that your sponsored kids communities are scheduled to come. By no later than October 1, 2018, we will have determined which communities are attending Camp Life 2018 for each week throughout the summer. These weeks are predetermined and limited to only TWO weeks so as to minimize interruptions in our Legacy Academies. If you sign up to attend Camp Life as either one of the weeks listed as the community your sponsored child(ren) live, we will be sure your children attend Camp Life the same week as you. Generally, you can likely anticipate that the week the communities came during Camp Life 2017 will basically be the same in 2018 with slight changes possible. Please check back here for the school/community listing.
Please note: children sponsored during the 2017 sponsorship drive will be enrolled in schools at the end of the year and into January, 2018. As a result, we will not have final details on the specific school a child is attending until that time. Typically, if they attended Camp Life with a specific community, they will attend school in that community. However, there are situations in which a child may attend school at a different Legacy Academy or in a different area. This can happen due to a family moving to a different area of town or if we discover the child is closer to another Legacy Academy in a neighboring community. Also, some sponsored children may attend Government schools. In this case, the child will attend Camp Life during their August school break instead of during our primary 7 weeks in June/July. However, if you attend a week that is not the same as your sponsored child(ren), then you will not have them in your group. If you are unable to come the same week, but still want an opportunity to see your sponsored child(ren), consider adding on a Child Sponsorship Trip at the end of your Camp Life week.
