SPONSORSHIP TRIP OPTIONS
1. LEGACY ACADEMY SPONSORSHIP PARTY
A sponsorship party is an opportunity for you to spend time with your sponsored children and/or children in our program to whom you are connected. At your sponsorship party, you and your children will enjoy fellowship, snacks, music and playtime at the hilltop playground.
Who can I invite to my sponsorship party?
An unlimited number of children:
- You sponsor: any child sponsored by you or your immediate family members (parent, sibling or child)
- You had in your Camp Life group: includes any child that has been in your Camp Life group
Up to 10 (only) of children who:
- You are connected to: any child that is connected to you in a particular way, outside of the options listed above (e.g. your friend’s sponsored child, a child from your brother’s Camp Life group)
What does it cost to bring a child to the party? And, what does that pay for?
The cost to invite a child to the sponsorship party is $40/each. That sum includes the following:
- Transportation to Legacy Center
- 50-lb. bag of mealie meal
- 1 drawstring backpack where you will provide gifts for your child (see policy below)
- Drink and meal
Gift Policy: Prior to your trip to Zambia, you will receive a drawstring backpack for each child invited
to your party.
In that backpack, a sponsor can give any or all items on the list below (but nothing additional):
ONE Educational Item:
Storybook Bible or Bible depending on age, any children’s book (preferably a Christian book), daily devotional, journal
ONE Activity Item:
Soccer ball, volleyball, basketball, frisbee, jump rope, bubbles
THREE Health/Hygiene Items:
Bar of soap, wet ones, washcloth or towel, toothbrush, pair of black socks
Homemade gift from you or your family (for example a small craft project), small bag of candy
A card, letter and/or photo from you or your family
We reserve the right to approve of gifts prior to being given to the children to ensure the policy is adhered to and to protect our children. Policies regarding gift-giving are carefully considered by Family Legacy staff in the US and in Zambia with the intent to guard the hearts and minds of the children in our program. We appreciate your cooperation in advance.
Please note: Unfortunately, we are not able to permit unsponsored children from your group at camp to participate in the sponsorship party – even if you agree to sponsor them during the week. While this seems unfair to the children in your group, there are other unintended consequences of inviting these children that cause issues across the program. In an effort to protect all of the children in our program, and our Zambian field staff, we are unable to allow these children to participate. If you have questions on this, please contact our Child Sponsorship team.
2. CHILD SPONSORSHIP HOME VISIT
The Child Sponsorship Home Visit allows you an opportunity to visit your sponsored child in their home. This will give you a chance to deliver food blessings and a personal gift (meeting the same criteria listed above) as well as meet the child’s family. Total number of home visits limited to 4.
3. TREE OF LIFE HILLTOP PICNIC
If you have children that you or a family member sponsor who live at the Tree of Life Children’s Village, you have the option to participate in the Tree of Life Hilltop Picnic. This includes a picnic lunch on the hilltop on Saturday afternoon.
Children invited to the picnic by you or your family can only include the children you personally sponsor and the children for whom you found sponsors.
Price for added sponsorship options will be reflected in your total on your Missions Control page.
If you are interested in adding a Sponsorship Trip, please indicate on your Camp Life application or if after the fact, contact Sara Gallivan for details about signing up.
