It was a life-altering summer on so many fronts!
My wife Lynelle and youngest daughter Sarah Grace traveled to Zambia for Family Legacy’s Camp Life in mid-June and I had the blessing of participating in Camp Life personally. And of course, as the new CEO for Family Legacy, I had the privilege of being in Zambia for all seven weeks of Camp Life. It was unbelievable!
The experience of seeing 6,300 children come from the communities of Lusaka to learn the message “God Sees Me” was a true joy. Led by the Holy Spirit, the over 600 American counselors, young and old, made a lasting impact on the lives of these children, and by numerous accounts, their own lives as well. The nearly 200 Zambian interpreters and counselors showed the love of Jesus in ways that inspired all of us in our walks with Christ as we gained fresh perspective for life lived out by deep and dependent faith.
On top of all of that, over 1,700 Zambians trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior!
What really struck me, though, was my own emotional response to this experience. I think I cried every day! In many cases, there were tears of joy as to what God had done. In some cases, there were tears of sadness as I heard the horrific stories of the abuse (emotional, physical and sexual) that many of these precious children suffer through. No one should have to experience the trauma they have had to endure. The tragic stories of parents who have died, parents who have abandoned, or simply parents who are unable to care for them just crushed me.
Yet, I experienced joy in a whole new way because of the unique opportunity we had to offer the neediest children the greatest hope! The hope that is in the gospel, the good news that allows these children to move from darkness to light. Jesus is that hope!
Now as we attempt to get all of the new children sponsored, we bow before the throne of grace and ask the Lord to do His mighty work in their lives. What a privilege it is for us to care for, feed, educate and share the love of Christ with these vulnerable children, who just like us, are made in His image.
I would like to invite you to join us as we pray that the work we do has a permanent impact on the children. Our goal is that they are prepared for life physically, emotionally, academically and spiritually. Thank you for being part of Family Legacy.
Serving our great God together,
President & CEO
