Norah is 10 years old and lived with her abusive mother after her Father died when she was a young girl. Her mother worked all day and Norah was left alone in their one-room house that didn’t have running water or electricity. In 2005, Norah came to her first Camp LIFE and learned that God is the light. You can see her proclaiming “Let There Be Light” in this video from camp that year.

A very short time after Camp LIFE, Norah’s mother forced her out of the house in the middle of the night and Norah at age 5 was brutally raped by a man in the streets. Her mother, who was dying of HIV, expressed her depression with her situation by beating Norah. As she talks about in the video, one day after being beaten Norah ran to one of our Community Resource Centers nearby her house. Norah began spending more and more time at the Resource Center to escape the beatings.

In 2009, Norah moved into the Tree of Life Children’s Village. On the day Norah moved into the Tree of Life, her mother begged us to take her cousin Mirriam too because she could not afford to take care of either of them. Norah and Mirriam are so happy to be living at the Tree of Life Children’s Village.
