From all of us at Family Legacy Missions, we hope you have a very Merry Christmas.  Thank you so much for your support and prayers as we all work to bring the Gospel and love of Christ into the lives of Zambian orphans.  We will be taking time off the next few days to rest, enjoy family and most importantly reflect on the reality that our God loved us enough to lower Himself and become like us for our good.

Merry Christmas from America and Zambia!

My name is Clay Hughey and I am the new Director of Marketing and Strategic Partnerships at Family Legacy.  Even though I am new on staff at FLMI, I am not new to the ministry.  I am the person that has been supplying FLMI with all their promotional products and t-shirts since 2003.  In 2005, I was blessed enough to go to Zambia during week 3, and part of my heart has been in Zambia ever since.  I haven’t been able to go back because of new babies and work, but I certainly haven’t forgotten it.  I am so excited that God has clearly called me to work full-time with the ministry I love so dearly.  There is no doubt in my mind that the Lord orchestrated this career change for me.  He has been so evident in all the details of this process.  Even though I have been told by many that I was crazy to accept a position that required me to raise my own support, I have never felt at peace about a decision as much as this one.  The Lord has orchestrated it all and He will provide.

In my first week at FLMI, it is evident that opportunity is abounding for this ministry and it will be my job to try to capture as much of that opportunity as possible.  There would be no opportunity without all the loyal supporters of FLMI and I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you.  I will try to create as many tools as possible to help you share your love for the orphans of Zambia with everyone you come in contact with.

There are only 13 days left until the Camp LIFE 2009 price increases.  Here are the top three reasons why you don’t want to miss Camp LIFE 2009:

  1. Our theme message is John 3:16.

It is shaping up to be the most powerful Camp LIFE ever as we tell the kids “For God so loved YOU!” For an orphan who has lost so much, been abused and has experienced such deep and wretched pain, this message of God’s great love for them could almost seem to be a cruel joke. These are the thoughts that they would most likely have — “How could the Bible be true about God’s love for me given the reality of my life? If God loved me so much, then why did my parents die? If Jesus loves me, then why does my aunt torture me or my uncle rape me? Besides, why would God even want to love me…my relatives call me a curse and I have even done wrong things before?” And that is exactly at the point and place that God has told us to interrupt the lives of these kids with the message of the overwhelming, all-powerful, all-consuming, all-merciful, ever present, never changing, never-ending love of God.

  2. The plans to go with our theme

Imagine the picture of flooding these kids with God’s love, and not just with hugs and songs and smiles, but with clear, concise, and concrete proof from God’s Word of His amazing love for them. We have some very special things planned to do with the kids. One of them is to celebrate the Lord’s Supper with them. Likely, these kids will have never before partaken of the Lord’s Supper and you are going to do it with them! On Friday, every child is going to receive a “Jesus Loves Me Evangelism Backpack”, including their own personal New Testament Bible and Evange-Cube card so that they can go tell everyone of God’s Great Love.

  3. The new theme song

The main theme song is “Jesus Loves Me”, but it is more of the Camp LIFE style. The walk-in song this year is entitled “Hey, Jesus Loves Me” and will be an explosion of energy and joy as the kids march in for our big group session each day. You can listen to both of them here

  4. The Tree of Life is scheduled to open this summer

With Randy Ransom over in Zambia until May 31st of next year working as our Director of Construction, we are prayerfully trusting God for the financial provision in our Infrastructure Campaign to have the Village ready to be opened next summer! Everything is ready…the houses are coming up fast, the school is on schedule, we just need the final components of power and water to be ready to open the gates and let the kids come in to their new home. How much joy will there be in their hearts and yours when you actually see Zambian orphans showing off their new bedrooms at the Village?

The price for Camp LIFE goes up on January 1, 2009 by $300.  You don’t have to pay until April 15th, but you have to sign up before January 1 to lock in the lower price.  Check out all the dates for Camp LIFE 2009 here.  We are very excited about the team that the Lord is assembling for this year’s Camp LIFE! We hope you’ve prayerfully considered whether or not He wants you to join Family Legacy in Zambia in 2009.

During week 6 of Camp LIFE I had the privilege of meeting this precious girl named Beauty Mulenga. She lives in the Garden Hill Community. Both of her parents have died and at the age of 7 she moved in with her Aunt. Beauty is now 13 years old and a vibrant young girl who takes on the meaning of her name! Even though she has so much joy for the Lord, that doesn’t take away the hardships she lives with. Beauty and her Aunt are both ill with different diseases. Beauty suffers from Sickle Cell Disease and her Aunt has TB. Since her Aunt has been sick, she is unable to work and provide food and medicine for them both. Therefore, another family member, Beauty’s other Aunt, helps provide them with food and part of Beauty’s school fees. However, Beauty has been in and out of school regarding the lack of consistent income. There are also days when there is not enough money for the medicine she needs to take to treat Sickle Cell.

Since Camp LIFE, Beauty has been asking to be in school all the time and for both her and her aunt to get well. Fortunately enough, The Father’s Heart Program provides assistance in both education and medical care ~ Beauty’s greatest needs. Her Camp LIFE counselor fell in love with Beauty and was passionate for this little girl’s life ~ so passionate that she quickly got her sponsored after returning to the States! Beauty has now been sponsored for several months and she has certainly benefited from this program.

Over the past number of months, Beauty was admitted to the hospital for several days because her Sickle Cell disease was taking its toll on her. She was actually taken to the hospital by her Discipleship Leader who then stayed with her until she could return home. NOW…Beauty is doing well and being supervised by both her Discipleship Leader and our Health Department Zone Leader. And on top of Beauty getting medical care, she has been in school consistently now and loves it!

Beauty is finding ways in the midst of her illness to continue sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to those around her. She is not letting this sickness get the best of her. She continues to share what she learned at Camp LIFE about the Lord being her Shepherd. When she begins to talk of the Lord, she is very bold and confident. Praise God for kids like Beauty who are desiring for the people in their community to come to know the Lord as their personal Savior.

While Holly was in Zambia this Fall for a short term assignment she went to visit Beauty to check on her status and I am thrilled to share this video of her with all of you! Praise the Lord for how He is using The Father’s Heart Sponsorship and Development Program to seek out and save these children! And this is only the beginning…I hope you enjoy this short video of the power of what a sponsorship can do! May you all be encouraged…

Blessings & Merry Christmas,

Joy
